The textile industry in Argentina has developed in parallel with the economic growth of the country.

As per INDEC, 1.360 new companies were set up in the first six months of 2005 in this industry. This number represents 10% of the total number of new businesses in the domestic industry that year. Moreover, investment in capital goods and production equipment amounted to $1.25 billion.

Textile exports, between January and September 2005, hiked by 4.6% YOY, amounting to US$359 million. Likewise, imports amounted to US$683 million, 21.3% higher YOY 2004.

In clothing and garments, lingerie comprises some 3000 businesses with an aggregate turnover of $1.6 billion in the Socks (for men, women and children), Hosiery (panty-hoses, ¾ socks, mini-socks, socks, etc.), Lingerie (homewear, brassieres, panties, etc.), Bathing Suits (for men, women and children) and Men’s Underwear (boxers, briefs, pajamas, etc.).

The favorable positioning of this sector in the new economic context is directly related to the following: The remarkable creative capability to design, the heterogeneous development of products, brands of domestic and international recognition and the prestige that Argentina as a country that is a benchmark for fashion and design throughout Latin America has.
